Yakuza 6 was a game of many firsts and lasts: It was the first game on the newly-developed Dragon Engine, it was the first (and only) game have every line fully voiced, and it was (at the time) the last game to feature Kazuma Kiryu as the protagonist. Despite its flaws, Yakuza 6 was a step into the next generation of gaming.
Because of its rushed development cycle and the transition to a brand new engine, Yakuza 6 was also one of the only games to remove sections of the map. Both Kamurocho Hills and the Champion District, both of which were mainstay locations throughout the series, are inaccessable due to construction work.
Kamurocho changed since Kiryu's last visit. Stardust was bought out by the Jingweon Mafia, Haruka and Akiyama went missing, and Little Asia burned to the ground. What the heck happened? It's also been a while for us, the player! With a fresh new look, every interior is now fully-rendered. Kiryu now opens up the doors without a loading screen in between!
The same goes for rooftops- Although the Kamurocho underground and the many rooftops are now a distant memory, some of its remnants are still around.
In Yakuza 4 and Yakuza 0, Little Asia was a cramped ghetto for mainland asian immigrants. Thanks to the fire, the area transformed into a more, tourist-like area.
Now, instead of tight alleyways, it's a lot more open with multiple alleys connecting to a courtyard in the front. There's lots of lanterns strung overhead.
Club SEGA also gets a minor revamp-
Overall, Yakuza 6 was a big step for Kamurocho. Although several areas were cut or underdeveloped, this laid the groundwork for its future.
